Nothing worse than the lukewarm pretender. How true it is that the average Catholic (priests included as one blog commenter witnessed) would take the bread at a Protestant funeral, or wedding service, without a second thought. It’s all about human respect and not wanting to offend the liberals and non-Catholic family or friends. It’s all about the ego . . .
Deacon Greg Kandra has posted an amazing article that he received from his brother-in-law about an 11 year-old home-schooled genius named Lucas Kramer. Lucas has aspirations for the priesthood. “. . . the one thing that I guess is really important in all I do is just try to do …
Matt Drudge has the scoop on Pat Buchanan’s new book, SUICIDE OF A SUPERPOWER, which asks the ominous question, “Will America Survive to 2025?” Soon to be published against the backdrop of the OWS protests (the angry left’s response to the Tea Party), the book has material enough, it would seem, to cause us national jitters. Supernatural hope aside — and yes, that’s better than all human help — there is little reason not to be jittery. Here are some excerpts that interest us:
LA’s Archbishop José Gomez speaks a language we are unaccustomed to hearing from that cathedra. I don’t mean Spanish. Note the italics.
Los Angeles, Calif., Oct 13, 2011 / 06:25 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Hispanic Catholic theology and ministry should work to recover the “sense of wonder and mystery” that the first missionaries to America experienced, Archbishop José H. Gomez of Los Angeles said Oct. 11.
“We need to see our country and all the Americas today through their eyes, to remember that these lands were once seen as the ‘ends of the earth,’ the final frontier of the Church’s universal saving mission.
Father Michael Rodriguez, the manly, priestly, zealous Mexican cleric of the El Paso Diocese, has given an interview to Michael Matt. It’s a little peek into the steely soul of a staunch alter-Christus whose defense of marriage has brought him much publicity and a storm of hatred from the enemies of the Church. In a very matter-of-fact way, Father Rodriguez refers positively to “the quest of traditional Catholics to restore the Cross, the Mass, the kingship of Jesus Christ, and true Catholic doctrine, outside of which there is no salvation” (emphasis mine).
The Philosopher has no dog in the race of Zimbabwean politics. (You can all breathe a sigh of relief now.) Therefore, agreeing with President Robert Mugabe on a religious point need not be taken as an endorsement of a man considered to be dictatorial.
When the Druid who heads the C of E complained to the African strongman about some Anglican-on-Anglican violence associated with a schism in Zimbabwe, Mugabe stated an historical fact.
In light of the first couple of paragraphs of my recent Ad Rem, this piece by Rod Dreher piqued my interest. Without the slightest overstatement, Dreher exposes the agenda behind “anti-bullying” measures. It’s really a way to indoctrinate children into believing that the unnatural is a good …
Yes, that is my opinion and also the opinion of many of the fathers of the Church. As far as I know, among the doctors, only Saint Thomas argued against Saint Michael being a seraph. The Prince of the heavenly hosts is not only in the highest angelic choir, but he is also, along with Gabriel and Raphael, one of the seven who stand before the throne of God.
Cultic is a strong word that has taken on a sinister meaning far from its original liturgical sense, which was the Latin word for “worship.” If there were something sinister going on in the facility, or diabolic, like a pagan ceremony or black mass, then the fine is just because the agreement for rental prohibits cultic activity.
What was bizarre about the whole self immolation thing is that in traditional Buddhism suicide is considered a terrible offense. I guess even in Buddhism many have put politics and the world over matters of the soul.
I wish some good traditional Catholic (perhaps Gary Potter) would write a good book about this Diem Family and their Catholicism, they played an important part in the world during the 20th century and when they could have turned their backs on the Catholic Church after the way the Liberal/Modernist/Moscow Agreement crowd treated them after they fought to uphold Catholicism against all odds. They had the Vatican, the Chinese, Worldwide Communism and even the USA against them. Archbishop Thuc was treated horribly back in Rome some saying he became a sede-vacantist (though this is disputed) I believe he was doing all he could in his own way with senility affecting him to fight for Tradition and this sister-in-law living in Rome remained a daily communicant for the rest of her life. If somebody wrote their story i bet even a major publisher would be interested, is anybody listening?
That is what I would love to know more about-why the Diem, anticommunist and USA ally, would be taken out by the USA. Not towing NWO line enough? not rolling over and begging enough for the Military-Industrial gurus?
